In Julia Pollock’s January 2019 report to the Board of Governors, she had this to say,
“The most fun for this group is the happiness we share when we send off our projects with a prayer.”
The Kingdom Crafters must be the happiest group on the island based on the number of projects they undertake. Here’s their tally since November:
For the 9th annual Veteran Community Homeless & Resource Stand Down in Jacksonville, N.C., they crocheted or knitted 26 scarves and 33 hats. The Stand Down will be held on February 5, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The crafters welcome until February 1 any completed items you donate for this ministry. Contact Julia Pollock for drop-off arrangements.
They donated 100 dresses to Haiti Outreach Ministry, through affiliate Pat Gunter, for Westminster Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, N.C., to take with them on their spring missions trip to the island.
For Vigilant Hope (serving the poor and homeless in Wilmington, N.C.), they sent 25 ponchos with hats and scarves in a string bag or recycled vinyl dog food bag turned into durable reusable carryall. Affiliate Laura Bloodworth assisted with this.
The crafters redistributed two car loads of gently-used and brand new clothing from Wilmington to Surf City Middle School, Onslow Women’s Center (providing crisis intervention to victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault), Rescue Mission of Cape Fear (offering both physical and spiritual healing to the homeless population of Wilmington), and Vintage Values (a resale store providing shelter and services for victims of domestic abuse).
They gave 20 newborn caps to Wake Med obstetrics and neonatal intensive care units via affiliate Sandra Davis.
The Crafters were thrilled to help Denise Sanderson pack a box for her nephew serving with the Air Force in South Korea over the holiday. We included one of our red ponchos/hat/scarf sets— he’s a North Carolina State University fan— plus a fleece blanket and a scarf from our Operation Gratitude inventory. It’s very cold in Korea!
Keep smiling, Crafters!! You make US smile with all you do.
