Celebrating the Light

Celebrating the Light

As I look at my calendar for April and May, I realize spring is here and summer is just around the corner. With all that has gone on with our weather this winter (rain, rain, and more rain) and the social interaction restrictions due to the pandemic, I am more than ready for summer! How about you?

Another thing that my calendar reminds me is that the months of April and May usher in the season of Easter (April 4 -May 22) which ends on Pentecost Sunday (May 23). Then it is only a week until Trinity Sunday (May 30) and Memorial Day (Monday, May 31) which is the “opening day” of summer.

So, think about this. Between the dark days of winter and the bright days of summer is the season of Easter. As I pondered this, I think God was trying to say something to me… Dark days, whether caused by rain, pandemic, or even death can only be overcome by the light of Jesus’ resurrection! Easter is what turns the dark days of winter into the bright days of summer. In every resurrection story in the Gospels, a great or brilliant light is mentioned. Indeed, Jesus is the “true light that gives light to everyone” (John 1:9). With this light comes understanding, hope, joy and peace.

So, during these days in April and May, ponder how Jesus has enriched and enlightened your life through the power of His resurrection. And remember His last words spoken on earth before He ascended into heaven, “and surely, I will be with you always, to the very end of the age” (Mt. 28:20).
